Speaker Bios

Clive Johnson

President, Chief Executive Officer & Director

Clive Johnson is a founding shareholder of B2Gold and has served as Director, President and CEO since its inception in November 2006. Previously, Clive was a founder of Vancouver-based Bema Gold Corporation. He was appointed as CEO after the company was created by the amalgamation of three Bema group companies in 1988. Clive was a driving force behind Bema Gold’s dramatic transition from a junior exploration company to an intermediate gold producer. Bema Gold was acquired by Kinross Gold Corporation for C$3.5 billion in 2007.

Founded as a private company by the management and technical teams of Bema Gold, B2Gold went public in December 2007 as a junior exploration company. Since then, B2Gold has grown to be the world’s new senior gold producer and is scheduled to produce approximately one million ounces of gold in 2019.

In In 2004, Clive received the Viola MacMillan Developer’s Award from the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada and in 2013 he received the Pacific Entrepreneur of the Year Award for Mining and Metals

Mike Cinnamond

Senior Vice President, Finance & Chief Financial Officer

Mike Cinnamond has served as B2Gold’s Senior Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer since April 1, 2014. He oversees the financial reporting, cash management and tax planning of B2Gold as well as financial compliance and reporting to the regulatory authorities. Prior to joining B2Gold, Mike was an audit partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP where he was the British Columbia Resources Leader for the Mining, Forestry and Energy and Utilities practices.

Mike has 19 years’ experience in the mining industry sector, and is currently a Director of the Canadian Institute of Mining and a Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of BC. Mike holds an LLB designation from the University of Exeter.

Bill Lytle

Senior Vice President, Operations

William (“Bill”) Lytle spent the first 12 years of his mining career with Bema Gold Corporation as the HSES Manager, between 1998 until 2003, and as Vice President, HSES & Permitting, from 2003 until 2006. During which time, he was predominantly involved in the construction and operation of the Company’s Julietta and Kupol mines in Russia.

In December 2010, Bill subsequently joined B2Gold as Country Manager, Namibia where he played an integral part in the construction transition – ahead of schedule – and operation of the Otjikoto Mine, and was ultimately promoted to Vice President, Africa in 2011, where he was responsible for overseeing mine construction of the Company’s world-class Fekola Project. In February 2016, Bill was then promoted to Senior Vice President, Operations and led the transition of the Company’s fifth and largest mine from construction to commercial production in November 2017, ahead of schedule and on budget. Today, Bill continues to be responsible for coordinating the development and construction of projects and operations for the Company worldwide, as well as managing B2Gold’s HSE, CSR and security logistics.

Bill is a registered professional engineer in Colorado, USA, with more than 21 years of experience in the mining sector across 24 countries. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering and a Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Colorado State University. 

 

Tom Garagan

Senior Vice President, Exploration

Tom Garagan has served as B2Gold’s Senior Vice President, Exploration since March 2007, and is responsible for all aspects of the company’s exploration, including technical review of new acquisitions. Tom is a geologist with over 35 years’ experience and was with Bema Gold on a consulting and full time basis from 1986 to 2007 and was appointed Vice President, Exploration in 1996.  He has worked in North and South America, throughout Africa, Asia and Russia and was instrumental in several discoveries, including the Cerro Casale and Kupol Deposits.

Tom currently serves as a Director of Vanadian Energy Corporation and BeMetals and holds an Honours BSc degree in Geology from the University of Ottawa.

Neil Reeder

VP, Government Relations

Neil Reeder joins B2Gold following a distinguished government career of over 35 years with Global Affairs Canada. He helped advance Canada's trade, foreign policy and development agenda during seven different diplomatic postings overseas and in increasingly senior positions in Ottawa. Most recently, he served as Canada's Ambassador to the Philippines. His previous ambassadorial postings include serving as Canada's High Commissioner to Brunei and as Canadian Ambassador to Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Honduras. He has also served as Deputy Head of Mission at the Canadian Embassy in Mexico.

Neil holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Saskatchewan and a Bachelor of Journalism degree from Carleton University. He speaks three languages.

Mohamed Diarra

Country Manager - Mali

Mohamed (“Moh”) Diarra has been Country Manager of B2Gold Mali since 2015. Moh was Export Manager at Bolloré Africa Logistics in Mali, from 2008 to 2009, was appointed Investment Promotion Officer in charge of mining, energy, construction and infrastructures at API (Investment Promotion Agency) from 2009 to 2012, and between 2013 and 2015, he was appointed Technical Advisor at the Ministry of Mines.

Moh holds a Master of Science degree in Mineral and Energy Economics from Curtin Graduate School of Business in Perth, Western Australia. After his primary studies at the French School in Bamako, he graduated in the United States attaining a Bachelor of Finance degree at the University of Tallahassee, Florida, and has subsequently expanded his skills in several fields through training and seminars. Moh has a passion for reading and is fluent in French and English.

Ray Mead

General Manager, Fekola

Ray Mead has been associated with B2Gold since 2012 when he took on the role of General Manager of the Masbate Gold Project, and moved to B2Gold in January 2013 upon the merger with CGA Mining Ltd. and B2Gold. Ray has 35 years in mining operations management, a product of the industry (industry trained) specializing in processing and maintenance operations.

Ray joined the Masbate Gold Project in the Philippines during the construction phase, and as of October 2018, has been working on the project for 10 years. He has worked at mining operations throughout East and West Africa (Tanzania and Ghana), Australia and the Philippines.

Andrew Brown

Exploration Manager - West Africa

Andrew (“Andy”) Brown joined B2Gold in 2012 and is currently the Exploration Manager for West Africa. He was previously a founder and Chief Executive Officer of Laurentian Goldfields Ltd., a Vancouver-based exploration company listed on the TSX Venture Exchange. Prior to Laurentian, Andy worked for Bema Gold, providing mineral resource evaluation expertise to Bema Gold’s exploration and mining operations in Far East Russia, South Africa and North America. With over 20 years of industry experience, he has conducted both advanced and grassroots exploration for FNX Mining, WMC International and for Placer Dome Canada.

Andy holds a MSc degree in Geology from Laurentian University and is a Registered Professional Geologist in British Columbia.

 

Cris Acosta

Country Manager - Philippines

Cris Acosta has been President of Filminera Resources Corporation since 2008. Prior to Cris joining Filminera Resources, he was with Shell, based in Manila and London, for over 11 years and was involved in business development, project management and external relations. He also served the government as an officer in the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police, and as a Special Assistant to the President of the Philippine Republic.

Cris is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York. As a Fulbright Scholar, he obtained his graduate degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (PhD in Nuclear Engineering, MS in Technology and Policy, and MBA) and Cornell University (Master in Nuclear Engineering). A member of an indigenous people tribe, Cris is a CFA charter holder, a Certified FRM and a Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Directors in the Philippines.

Daniel Moore

General Manager — Masbate Gold Project

Daniel Moore is the current General Manager of the Masbate Gold Project.  He has 33 years’ engineering, management and operations experience in the gold mining industry. He worked first as an engineer at the Cortez Gold Mine in Nevada, followed by several engineering and operations management roles with Pegasus Gold in the western United States over eight years.  He spent eight years in management at the Round Mountain Gold Mine in Nevada, a Kinross Gold and Barrick joint venture, followed by another eight years in corporate manager and director roles with Kinross Gold in the evaluation and support of North American and international projects.  This was followed by five years in VP Technical Services and General Manager positions with two American gold mining firms.  He has worked at the Masbate Gold Project for the last two years.

Dan holds a Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering (University of Nevada, Reno, United States) and is a registered Professional Mining Engineer in Nevada.

Mark Dawe

Managing Director & Country Manager - Namibia

Mark Dawe is Managing Director and Country Manager for B2Gold Namibia, and has carried out this role since February 2015. He was previously Vice President for Key Raw Materials and Head of Mining Operations for Solvay’s Global Business Unit: Special Chemicals. In this role, Mark was responsible for overseeing the mining operations and projects of the Unit – including Okorusu Fluorspar Mine in Namibia (B2Gold’s Otjikoto Mine’s closest neighbour). He has worked in Namibia for 30 years and has extensive experience engaged with the government both as Managing Director and as twice former President for the Namibian Chamber of Mines.

Mark exemplifies what B2Gold strives for in leadership; he shares with the company a passion for team- building and maximizing employee potential. He has a desire for responsible mining, sustainable development and “truly making a difference to country, community and environment”.

Ken Jones

Manager – Environmental & Permitting

Ken Jones joined B2Gold as Manager of Health, Safety, Environment and Permitting in October 2012. He has over 15 years’ experience in the mining and consulting industry; in the development and implementation of environmental, health and safety management systems; project permitting and environmental and social impact assessment (ESIA); project environmental auditing and due diligence, geochemical characterization and water quality modelling, reclamation and closure, and biodiversity and ecology conservation (including for critically endangered species).

Ken holds a BSc in Chemical Engineering from the University of Iowa and is a licensed professional engineer in the State of Colorado. He is also fluent in Spanish.

Eric Barnard

General Manager, Otjikoto Mine

Eric Barnard has been Acting as the General Manager at the Otjikoto Mine since April 2018. He joined B2Gold Namibia in 2014 as the metallurgical manager, guiding the transition of the process plant from construction to operations and into steady-state operation. Prior to joining B2Gold, he worked for Gold Fields South Africa and African Barrick Gold for 15 and 5 years respectively during which he gained varied experience in process plant operations and design.

He holds a National Higher Diploma in Extractive Metallurgy (Technikon Witwatersrand) and completed a Management Development Programme (University of Stellenbosch).

Darren Parry

Corporate Health & Safety Manager

Darren Parry serves as B2Gold’s Corporate Health and Safety Manager. In addition to his 14 years in mining logistics, he has spent the last 10 years in operational and corporate roles managing all OHS activities from greenfield to brownfield. Darren has been recognized for implementing programs and systems which advance cultures of safety resiliency and reduce injuries.   

Darren has a BBA from Simon Fraser University, Industrial Trainer Qualifications (Ministry of Education), Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety and over 25 years of health and safety experience in heavying industrial and mining operations nationally and internationally.

Liane Kelly

CSR Advisor

Liane Kelly is a CSR professional who has been working with B2Gold since 2011. She is currently the company’s corporate CSR Advisor and is responsible for B2Gold’s sustainability reporting. Her expertise is in social risk management and developing effective CSR and community investment programs. Her professional experience also includes working as an exploration geophysicist in the mining sector before transitioning to CSR.

She has a BSc in Engineering Physics (Queen’s University), a postgraduate Certificate in International Development (UBC) and is a registered professional engineer in Ontario.
