The Namibian Rhino Gold Bar

1000 ounces of gold makes an enormous difference

Creative Conservation and Philanthropy for the Future of Our Planet

Given that the donated gold is from our Otjikoto Mine in Namibia, it was appropriate to ensure that the initial sale of the gold bars was offered to the Namibian people, as well as to African/international investors, collectors and conservationists at the largest mining event in Africa.

Earlier on in the year, we launched the Namibian Rhino Gold Bar campaign at a local level in Africa at two separate events attended by a congregation of high-level government officials, conservationists, busines partners, investors and B2Gold employees. The first event took place in January at Droombos Estate in Windhoek, Namibia, and was shortly followed in February by the Rhino Gold Bar reveal at CCAfrica’s Canada Pavilion cocktail networking reception at the Investing in Africa Mining Indaba conference in Cape Town, South Africa.

During the events, Clive Johnson, President & CEO of B2Gold, talked about the concept of redefining conservation financing. He stated that, "The donation of 1,000 ounces of gold from our mine in Namibia represents the first time that gold, a natural resource from the ground, is being used to provide sustainable funding to community-driven initiatives. This groundbreaking and one-of-a-kind initiative is helping ensure the conservation and protection of Namibia’s iconic black rhino, a critically endangered global treasure.”
