Human Resources Coordinator

Introduction
The Human Resources Coordinator is responsible for applying business knowledge and human resources expertise, by providing a wide range of HR support functions including recruitment, on-boarding, benefit administration, and maintaining employee files.  This position works in a team environment which provides HR support to the Corporate Vancouver office as well as International Expatriate employees.Location and Reporting Structure
Based in the Vancouver Corporate office, this position reports to the Director, Human Resources & Administration.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Post job vacancies and conduct reference checks;
  • Manage incoming résumés;
  • Arrange logistics with regards to recruitment and staffing matters;
  • Assist with the coordination of new hire administrative processes including obtaining approvals, drafting contracts, communicating with employees prior to first day of employment, and new hire orientations;
  • Process new employees and terminations;
  • Review payroll and benefit forms and procedures with new hires;
  • Update and maintain all HR documents and files;
  • Assist with benefit programs and act as the liaison between benefit providers and employees;
  • Review benefit invoices for accuracy of enrollment and changes;
  • Respond to telephone and written enquiries regarding personnel matters;
  • Arrange in-house and external activities as required;
  • Maintain employee leave records in accordance with policies;
  • Maintain organizational chart;
  • Back-up to other HR staff as required;
  • Provide back-up reception support as needed; and
  • Perform other duties as required in support of Company objectives.


Competencies and Requirements

  • Human Resources designation;
  • 3+ years’ experience in HR;
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite as well as Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS);
  • Motivated to learn and has a passion for delivering high quality customer service in all aspects of his/her work;
  • Work independently and be able to prioritize and adhere to strict deadlines;
  • Excellent verbal, written, and social skills – approachable and professional communication with both internal and external stakeholders;
  • The ability to understand and maintain confidentiality is essential in this position; and
  • Be an excellent team player who is willing to assist as required.

Position
Health and Safety Manager

Introduction
The Health and Safety Manager will lead the Corporation’s occupational health and safety programs; track performance, identify priorities and develop strategies and programs to ensure continuous improvement in the Corporation’s occupational health and safety performance; support regional and site staff in all aspects of occupational health and safety management such as the identification of best practices, investigation of root causes of occupational health and safety incidents, assessment of risks, implementation of critical controls, and tracking indicators of performance; ensure that the occupational health and safety audit program provides a rigorous review of each site’s ability to manage occupational health and safety risks and support sites in actions to address deficiencies and realize continuous improvement opportunities; and ensure the Corporation’s reporting on occupational health and safety matters.

Location and Reporting Structure
This position is based in the Vancouver Corporate office but will be required to travel extensively and reports directly to the Senior Vice President, Operations.

Duties and Responsibilities
To manage the Corporation’s occupational health and safety programs:

  • Oversee the Corporate occupational health and safety function including establishing Policies and Standards, establishing Directives and Guidance, setting Objectives and Targets, and developing systems and measures that appropriately assess functional performance;
  • Ensure critical permits are maintained and complied with by all operations;
  • Provide input into the development of corporate, regional and site procedures/practices:
    • Standardize procedures/practices across the organization as needed;
    • Establish and maintain the Corporate Crisis Management Plan and coordinate crisis management exercises;
  • Respond to requests and provide guidance and advice across the Corporation/function;
  • Provide expertise, guidance, mentoring, development and advisory services to all sites within B2Gold in all disciplines associated with occupational health and safety management:
    • Assist regional and site personnel in implementing occupational health and safety programs;
    • Advise and assist site management in the development of hazard control methods and techniques consistent with B2Gold occupational health and safety requirements;
    • Oversee the implementation and quality control of competency-based training systems at B2Gold sites;
    • Oversee accident investigation process to ensure an effective root cause analysis system is maintained at each operation. Collect data, analyze trends and communicate across the organization the common reasons why accidents are occurring, including overseeing the implementation of corrective actions at all B2Gold sites relating to findings from accident/incident investigations for extreme risk events at any B2Gold site;
    • Ensure management system software is utilized effectively at B2Gold operating sites, including training site personnel in its use and approving and implementing software modifications/updates;
  • Oversee accident/incident investigations for fatalities and extreme risk events at B2Gold sites;
  • Measure, audit and evaluate the occupational health and safety management systems and hazard controls at B2Gold operations for conformance with B2Gold’s occupational health and safety requirements and communicate the results of evaluations to site management and appropriate corporate personnel:
    • Oversee the occupational health and safety standards (Management System Standards and Performance Standards) audit program, including communicating results to site management and appropriate corporate personnel;
  • Ensure appropriate follow up on issues that arise out of audits, inspections and accident/incident investigations;
  • Review regional and site occupational health and safety budgets;
  • Oversee the development of the occupational health and safety components of the Corporation’s Responsibility Report;

 To build capacity of the Corporation’s occupational health and safety staff:

  • Assist as necessary in the search for and recruitment of regional and site occupational health and safety personnel;
  • Engage and support as needed the development of B2Gold regional and site occupational health and safety personnel;

To advise the management group on corporate health and safety:

  • Produce and deliver monthly occupational health and safety reports on the operational performance of B2Gold sites;
  • Report on occupational health and safety performance to the Board of Directors Health, Safety, Environment, Corporate Social Responsibility and Security Committee;
  • Prepare internal and external occupational health and safety reports or components of reports as required;
  • Interface as required with stakeholders on occupational health and safety matters;
  • Conduct and report on occupational health and safety due diligence on potential acquisitions;
  • Review best practices and the competitive landscape and recommend continuous improvement efforts in corporate occupational health and safety;
  • Stay current with technological developments, standards, methods and international best practices related to occupational health and safety management; and
  • Perform other duties as required in support of Company objectives.
