Introduction

The Office Assistant plays a key role in the organization and daily operations of the office. The Office Assistant is responsible for providing general office support to the entire office, and administrative support to a few senior staff members.

Location and Reporting Structure

Based in the Vancouver Corporate office, this position reports directly to the Office Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities

Assisting our Administration Department

  • Maintain office supplies (stationary, business cards, kitchen supplies, etc.);
  • Prepare and maintain reports and other documentation, as required;
  • Prepare and maintain paper and electronic files/records (internal records and off-site storage);
  • Telephone administrator (office phones and cell phones);
  • Distribute office memos;
  • Distribute mail, couriers, and faxes;
  • Maintain relationship with vendors;

  • Kitchen duties (restock supplies, tidy counters, fridges, and microwaves);

Assisting with Reception Coverage

  • Answer and forward calls, conveying exemplary phone etiquette;

Competencies and Requirements

Position

Chief Mine Planning Engineer, Vancouver

Introduction

The Chief Mine Planning Engineer is responsible for creating and maintaining medium and long-term production and cost models, and providing technical support to our operating and development projects.

Location and Reporting Structure

This position is based in the Vancouver Corporate office, but will be required to travel extensively (approximately 50% of the time) and reports directly to the Project Director.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain medium and long-term mine production and cost models;
  • Support annual production plans and budgets;
  • Manage data and information, and monitor production performance metrics and indicators;
  • Review and report on the status and outlook of mining operations regularly and as needed;
  • Manage and/or perform discrete projects, as required;
  • Participate in the due diligence and assessment of mine projects related to acquisitions and mergers;
  • Ensure that mine designs and plans meet B2Gold and industry standard safety parameters;
  • Provide professional guidance and advice to B2Gold’s operations and projects;

Competencies and Requirements

  • Degree in Mine Engineering or similar relevant field;
  • Professionally qualified Mining Engineer (P. Eng, P.E., or something similar);
  • 10 – 15 years’ mining experience, including significant mine planning and managerial/leadership roles;
  • Strong history of meeting targets and deadlines;
  • Experience in managing consultants and teams directly and remotely;
  • Strong knowledge, ability, and understanding of mine optimization, design, production planning, and site performance;
  • International working experience and the ability to travel to and work with a variety of cultures and settings;
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities with all levels of internal employees and external professionals and stakeholders;
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision, and manage multitasking and multiple demands;

Health, Safety, Environmental, and Permitting Manager

Introduction

The Health, Safety, Environmental, and Permitting Manager will lead the Corporation’s healthy, safety, and environment programs; Track performance, identify priorities and develop strategies and programs to ensure continuous improvement in the Corporation’s health, safety, and environmental performance; Support regional and site staff in all aspects of health, safety, and environmental management such as the identification of best practices, investigation of root causes, assessment of risks, implementation of critical controls, and tracking indicators of performance; Ensure that the health, safety, and environment audit program provides a rigorous review of each site’s ability to manage health, safety, and environment and support sites in actions to address deficiencies and realize continuous improvement opportunities; and Support the Corporation’s reporting on health, safety and environment matters.

Duties and Responsibilities

To manage the Corporation’s health, safety and environment programs

  • Oversee the corporate health, safety and environment function including establishing Policies and Standards, establishing Directives and Guidance, setting Objectives and Targets, and developing systems and measures that appropriately assess functional performance;
  • Ensure critical permits are maintained and complied with by all operations;
  • Provide input into the development of corporate, regional and site procedures/practices:
    • Standardize procedures/practices across the organization as needed;
    • Establish and maintain the Corporate Crisis Management Plan and coordinate crisis management exercises;
    • Ensure the completion of annual Asset Retirement Obligation estimates for B2Gold’s sites; and
    • Ensure that B2Gold’s tailings storage facilities are inspected annually and that inspection findings are communicated to site and corporate management.
  • Respond to requests and provide guidance and advice across the Corporation/function;
  • Provide expertise, guidance, mentoring, development and advisory services to all sites within B2Gold in all disciplines associated with health, safety and environmental management:
    • Assist regional and site personnel in implementing health, safety and environmental programs;
    • Advise and assist site management in the development of hazard control methods and techniques consistent with B2Gold health, safety and environment requirements;
    • Oversee the implementation and quality control of competency based training systems at B2Gold sites;
    • Oversee accident investigation process to ensure an effective root cause analysis system is maintained at each operation.  Collect data, analyze trends and communicate across the organization the common reasons why accidents are occurring, including overseeing the implementation of corrective actions at all B2Gold sites relating to findings from accident/incident investigations for extreme risk events at any B2Gold site; and
    • Ensure management system software is utilized effectively at B2Gold operating sites, including training site personnel in its use and approving and implementing software modifications/updates.
  • Oversee accident/incident investigations for fatalities and extreme risk events at B2Gold sites;
  • Measure, audit and evaluate the health, safety and environment management systems and hazard controls at B2Gold operations for conformance with B2Gold’s health, safety and environment requirements and communicate the results of evaluations to site management and appropriate corporate personnel:
    • Oversee the health, safety and environment standards (Management System Standards and Performance Standards) audit program, including communicating results to site management and appropriate corporate personnel.
  • Ensure appropriate follow up on issues that arise out of audits, inspections and accident/incident investigations;
  • Review regional and site health, safety and environment budgets;
  • Oversee the development of the health, safety and environmental components of the Corporation’s Responsibility Report;
  • Oversee environmental studies and impact assessments for the Corporation’s development projects;

 To build capacity of the Corporation’s health, safety and environmental staff

  • Assist as necessary in the search for and recruitment of regional and site health, safety and environment personnel;
  • Engage and support as needed the development of B2Gold regional and site health, safety and environment personnel;

To advise the management group on corporate health, safety and environment

  • Produce and deliver monthly health, safety and environment reports on the operational performance of B2Gold sites;
  • Report on health, safety and environmental performance to the Board of Directors Health, Safety, Environment, Corporate Social Responsibility and Security Committee;
  • Prepare internal and external health, safety and environment reports or components of reports as required;
  • Interface as required with stakeholders on health, safety and environmental matters;

Reporting to the Finance Manager, this position will be based at the B2Gold Mali Fekola Mine.

Introduction

The Financial Accountant is responsible for financial reporting internally and externally to Head Office (Vancouver) taking into consideration the different statutory requirements like IFRS, OHADA and Malian Tax Law. The duties also include assistance with budgets and forecasts; cash flow requirements, liaising with stakeholders to communicate difficult and complex financial transactions; and development of SOX controls. A major initial task will be the development of processes and procedures to move from construction to operations.

Duties and Responsibilities

Financial Reporting

Prepare/compile/generate financial reports including but not limited to:

  • Monthly and quarterly reports required by Head Office in Vancouver;
  • Preparation of additional analysis and breakdowns as requested by Head Office in Vancouver;
  • Monthly and year-end reports required by Malian Tax Law, OHADA and other Malian Statutory requirements;
  • Oversee and review the maintenance of accounting and other integrated systems;
  • Develop and implement a plan to change accounting and control practices/procedures from construction phase to operational phase;
  • Review reconciliations of the group of companies’ trial balances in terms of IFRS, Malian Tax and OHADA requirements;
  • Provide coaching and guidance related to financial complexities like group accounting policies and IFRS vs OHADA accounting standards as well as development vs. commercial production phase;
  • Analysis and interpretation of financial data and information and make recommendations;
  • Assist with preparation and filing of various statutory returns;
  • Assist with establishment of operational objectives for each financial year with cooperation of key stakeholders
  • Assist with financial planning and forecasting standards and cash flow requirements
  • Assist with communication of approved financial plans and forecasts to relevant stakeholders

General Duties

  • Build and maintain healthy and transparent relationships with stakeholders (internal and external);
  • Act as an interface between the financial and non - financial stakeholders and provide advice on the interpretation of relevant financial and cost management reports;
  • Develop and apply mechanisms and structures to ensure adherence to governance practices and protocols (Malian Tax Laws, OHADA, IFRS and other Malian Statutory requirements);
  • Assist with audit enquiries (external or internal) and special investigations;
  • Monitor and ensure adherence to SOX compliance for the respective processes responsible for;
  • Hands-on day to day monitoring and supervising to ensure accurate accounting practices by staff, including coaching and creating opportunities for development; and

  • NFQ 8 Qualification in Financial/Management Accounting
  • Qualified Chartered Accountant
  • At least 5 years’ post-qualification relevant experience, of which most should have been in the mining industry

Regional Corporate Social Responsibility Manager, Vancouver

Introduction

The Regional CSR Manager will fulfill the mandate of social responsibility mandate for B2Gold. Working closely with senior management at all sites and with field teams, the Regional CSR Manager will mobilize the organization and collaborate in the development of CSR strategies for the Company.

Main duties will be to direct and manage the social and community issues related to B2Gold global projects and operations and to provide reporting to corporate management, as required. The Regional CSR Manager will be a self-directed professional who is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where there is frequent change. International and domestic travel will be required.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Fulfill the corporate CSR mandate of: i) social risk management; ii) capability development; and iii) community investment;
  • Working with the other Regional CSR Manager colleague, provide direction to our sites on the implementation of our social responsibility policy, social performance standards, and community investment strategy;
  • Define or contribute to CSR strategies at sites related to social issues such as: stakeholder engagement, grievance and conflict management, community investment, artisanal mining, resettlement and land acquisition, human rights, local employment, and sustainability;

Senior Mining Engineer, West Africa – Mali Learn More

Position

Senior Mining Engineer, West Africa – Mali

Introduction

The Senior Mining Engineer is responsible for providing mine planning services within the mining engineering group, including scheduling, drilling layouts, blasting assistance, coordination with grade control, and other general requirements of mining operations of a producing gold mine. He/she ensures the mining operations section meets the needs of an expanding operation while maintaining an international standard of practice and a high level of internal communications.

This position will be responsible for long-term mine planning for the open pit mine and delivering production data and reports, stockpile accounting, and mine-mill reconciliation. Emphasis will be on minimizing dilution and ore loss, training and mentoring, tracking ore stockpile quantities and quality, and maintaining high standards of work safety and health.

Location and Reporting Structure

Reporting to the Technical Services Manager, this position will be a fly in – fly out rotation, based at the B2Gold Mali Fekola Mine.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Adhere to and support all company related policies and procedures;
  • Prepare long-term mine plans to ensure site alignment with yearly budget;
  • Optimize the extraction of mineralized zones and minimize dilution;
  • Understand, monitor, and develop geotechnical site requirements;
  • Optimize pit and dump designs using geotechnical design parameters and pit phasing;
  • Plan for water management of in-pit water;
  • Assist with strategic mine planning and development of assumptions and schedules for quarterly forecasts and yearly budgets;
  • Assist in identifying efficiency gains and cost savings;
  • Assist in training and developing junior national engineers and other technical services staff;
  • Liaise with Load and Haul on a daily basis to ensure minimal ore loss and dilution;
  • Assure safe working practices and environment, cooperate with other departments in safety programs;
  • Ensure timely preparation of daily and weekly mine plans to ensure alignment with three month rolling plans;
  • Prepare clearly written monthly reports and other documentation on required frequencies;
  • Maintain constructive and effective working relationships with B2Gold employees, contractors, and consultants; and
  • Perform other duties as required in support of Company objectives.

Competencies and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering or an equivalent;
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience;
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience at producing gold mines;
  • Proficient with Microsoft office products and at least one mining software package, preferably Surpac;
  • Experience with workplace safety programs; and
  • Possession of Code B drivers’ license.
