Position
Mine Training Superintendent

Introduction
The Mine Training Superintendent will be responsible for Managing and Implementing a Training Program for training the open pit operators in order to uplift their operating skills and enable them to operate mining equipment safely and efficiently.

Works closely with Mine Supervision and Mine Safety.

Location and reporting structure
This position will be based at the B2Gold Mali Fekola Mine and will report to the Mining Manager.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Adhere to and support all company related policies and procedures;
  • Apply mining training theory and adhere to B2Gold mining procedures and practices;
  • Train new operators on the mining equipment;
  • Develop a training program taking into account local workforce capabilities;
  • Implement and manage a program with a group of trainers;
  • Enhance operator skills on continuous basis;
  • Record all training done on weekly basis;
  • Provide training needs identifications to the Training Specialist on monthly basis;
  • Practice good housekeeping on all course material, training facilities and the correct use of course material;
  • Keep record of all training media and material up to date;
  • Keep record of and file all training media issued to self and trainee;
  • Scheduling training for one month in advance;
  • Communicate training schedule to candidates and post schedule on notice board;
  • Provide feedback and input to daily, weekly and monthly training plans;
  • Control and care for learning material (Training Manuals) and media (Camera, Tri-Pod, Monitor and projector);
  • Control, monitor and file certification of all skill training (Operator Competency and Authorization to operate);
  • Perform video operational assessment and facilitate feedback sessions;
  • Monitor and record training activities and program effectiveness;
  • Develop alternative training methods if expected improvements are not seen;
  • Monitor trainees’ use of equipment;
  • Re-evaluate employees every 12 month;
  • Perform regular planned Job/Task Observation; and
  • Perform other duties as required in support of Company objectives.

Competencies and Requirements

  • Grade 12 certificate or equivalent;
  • At least 5 years mining experience in surface mining operations of which 2 years must be on mine training;
  • Experienced in managing a Mine Training program;
  • Mining equipment operating experience that covers wide range of equipment such as loaders, haul trucks, bull dozers, excavators, face shovels, water trucks, graders, drills etc.;
  • Code CE driver’s license; and
  • African experience is an asset.

Position
Mine Geologist

Introduction
The position will be responsible for day to day activities management of the open pit mine ore control activities, geologic interpretation, production infill drilling, and delivering production data and reports.

Emphasis will be on ore grade control, minimizing of dilution, sorting of ore types and tracking ore stockpile quantities and quality. The incumbent will also be responsible for grade control modelling and estimates as well assist in short and long term mine planning. In addition, responsibilities include geotechnical data collection and assist in ground control design and procedures for open pit mine development and production benches.

Location and reporting structure
This position will be based at the B2Gold Mali Fekola Mine and will report to the Chief Mine Geologist.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Adhere to and support all company related policies and procedures;
  • Optimize the extraction of mineralized zones and minimize dilution;
  • Manage grade control drilling activities and sampling crew;
  • Ensure representative sample;
  • Liaise with Assay laboratories to ensure compliance to standards through QAQC;
  • Conduct grade control modelling and estimates;
  • Assist in design of open pit mine development;
  • Manage production activities in the pit to optimize extraction and realize resource potential;
  • Assist in mine planning activities for both short term and long term;
  • Prepare daily, monthly and yearly production reports;
  • Prepare clearly written monthly reports and other documentation on required frequencies;
  • Maintain constructive and effective working relationships with B2Gold employees, contractors and consultants; and
  • Perform other duties as required in support of Company objectives.

Competencies and Requirements

  • BS Degree in Geology, Geologic Engineering or equivalent;
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in an open pit mine

Chief Mine Geologist

Introduction
The position is responsible for running the long term and the day to day aspects of the mine geology section within the Mine Department of a producing gold mine. Ensuring the geology section meets the needs of an expanding operation while maintaining an international standard of practice and high level of internal communications.

The position will be responsible for management of the open pit mine ore control activities, geologic interpretation, grade control drilling, and delivering production data and reports, Stockpile accounting, and mine-mill reconciliation.  Emphasis will be on ore grade control, minimizing dilution and ore loss, training and mentoring, tracking ore stockpile quantities and quality, and maintaining high standards of work safety and health for himself and his department

The position manages the team of geologists, junior geologists, ore spotters and samplers.

Location and reporting structure
This position will be based at the B2Gold Mali Fekola Mine and will report to the Mining Manager.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Adhere to and support all company related policies and procedures;
  • Long term planning to ensure the section meets the needs of the Mine Plan;
  •  Optimize the extraction of mineralized zones and minimize dilution;

  • Manage RC drill;
  • Ensure representative sample;

  • Prepare clearly written monthly reports and other documentation on required frequencies;
  • Perform mine-mill reconciliations;
  • Assist in mine planning activities for both short term and long term;
  • Ensure that geological considerations are incorporated in short and long term planning;
  • Training and mentoring of geologists and junior geologists;
  • Report to Corporate to ensure compliance with company standards;
  • Liaise with Corporate Resource Department for new reserve and resource estimates;
  • Maintain constructive and effective working relationships with B2Gold employees, contractors and consultants; and
  • Perform other duties as required in support of Company objectives.

Competencies and Requirements

  • BSc Degree with post graduate qualification in Geology, Geologic Engineering or equivalent;
  • Minimum 15 years’ experience, at least 10 years exposure to  mining and 5 years at a supervisory level;
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience at producing gold mines preferably using RC drilling grade control;
  • Proficient in geostatistics, 3D orebody modelling;
  • Proficient with Microsoft office products and at least one mining software package, preferably Surpac;
  • Experience with workplace safety programs; and
  • Possession of Code B driver’s license or National driver’s license

EMERGENCY RESPONSE SUPERVISOR

Location
This position will be a fly in - fly out rotation, based at the Fekola Gold Project in Mali.

Job Description and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Emergency Response Coordinator (ERC), the Emergency Response Supervisor (ERS) will:

  • support the ERC in times of crisis.  Assist in the coordination of the emergency management effort to primarily save life and then damage to equipment and property;
  • have a thorough understanding of all the emergency response plans for the Fekola site and the ability to effectively action these in a time of crisis;
  • have a flexible attitude, with the ability to manage a range of tasks at the same time;
  • display sound instructional techniques to ensure that key learning outcomes can be achieved for all members of the Emergency Response Team (ERT);
  • have a sound understanding of the gold mining industry and be able to communicate effectively with Local Nationals as well as Expats at all levels; and
  • provide the Emergency Response site wide when the ERC is on leave.

Main Responsibilities

  • Assist with ERT training;
  • Assist with the development of the ERT training program;
  • Maintenance of ERT equipment;
  • Record keeping of ERT documents;
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of the Emergency Procedures and Emergency Plan;
  • Assist with report writing;
  • Assist with Emergency Equipment checks;
  • Coordinate and participate in emergency drills;
  • Assist in developing training modules across site;
  • Undertake any training required for the job;
  • Ensure any skill deficiencies are discussed with the ERC;
  • Report any deficiencies in the training materials; and
  • Assist in the training of the Emergency Response Training members in ERT

Required Qualification

  • Educated to High School Diploma Level as a minimum, preferably higher education;
  • Driver’s license held plus should be able / qualified to operate larger equipment;
  • Self-motivated and self-reliant;
  • Supervisory positions held previously;
  • First aid training;
  • Professional and trustworthy with a “Lead by example” attitude;
  • Experience in a training role with proven ability to reach key learning objectives;
  • Excellent English - Written and spoken;
  • 5 years open pit mining experience; and
  • Emergency Response experience.

A start-up opportunity exists for an incumbent to oversee the Process Plant and be responsible for the operation to agreed parameters.

Location and reporting structure
Reporting to the Mill Manager, this position will be a fly in – fly out rotation, based at the Fekola Gold Project in Mali.

Duties and responsibilities
As Mill Superintendent you will be accountable for the mill operations and employees’ safety plus their continuous development and improvement. It is essential that applicants have a desire to succeed in a developing nation and possess a professional attitude recognizing social sensibilities at all times. The primary role of the incumbent will be to provide leadership and support to the Operations team, troubleshoot major repairs and ensure full compliance with company standards, policies and procedures at all times. The role will be required to cover for periods of absence by the Mill Manager during rostered breaks and subsequently possess a high level of self-motivation and discipline to ensure efficiencies in all facets of the operation are achieved. Previous exposure to Maintenance systems and practices while not essential would be considered an advantage.

The success of the position will see a strong reliance on teamwork and the ability to work as part of a dynamic team is essential. The role will be involved in start-up hence previous experience at this level of an operation would be highly regarded. The ability to interact with other groups within the business to ensure the highest electro – mechanical availability is achieved at all times is a must.

Competencies and Requirements
The person we seek will have extensive experience in Mineral processing, preferably with a very strong background in gold and a minimum of 5 - 10 years’ experience in a Senior Supervisory role at a similar level in a developing country. A Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, or other related discipline, while not essential, would be highly regarded however persons with relevant industry experience are also encouraged to apply. The incumbent must be prepared to work on a long roster cycle, primarily located in Mali, West Africa and those with French or multi lingual abilities would be considered an advantage. It is vital that the applicant will possess excellent interpersonal, communication and problem solving skills and will be best suited to an individual with a strong hands on approach who leads by example at all times.

Mining Engineer, West Africa – Mali

Introduction

The purpose of this role is to provide mine planning services within the mining engineering group, including short-term scheduling, drilling layouts, blasting assistance, coordination with grade control, and other general requirements of mining operations.

Location and reporting structure

This position will be based at the B2Gold Mali Fekola Mine and will report to a Technical Services Manager.  

Duties and responsibilities

  • Short-term and long term mine plans to ensure overall production schedule is met
  • Reconciles short range plans and actual key performance indicators back against the longer range plans
  • Liaises with mine operations department to integrate mine plans with operations activities
  • Create short-term mine production plans based off of optimised life-of-mine plan
  • Create drill layouts for mine operations
  • Works closely with explosives supply contractor on blast design and optimisation
  • Planning for water management of in-pit water
  • Regularly analyses engineering sections' operating costs and identifies cost reduction opportunities
  • Regularly analyses mine key performance indicators and integrates changes to KPI's into future plans
  • Development and implementation of engineering standard operating procedures
  • Assist in training junior engineers and other technical services staff

Competencies and Requirements

  • Degree in Mining Engineering with a minimum 5 years' experience open pit mine engineering
  • Strong computer skills in AutoCAD and a mine planning software package such as MineSight, Surpac, Micromine, Maptek, etc.
  • Accomplished written, verbal and group presentation skills
  • Experience with MS office
  • National driver’s license
