Position

HSEP Coordinator, Vancouver

Location and Reporting Structure

This position is based in the Vancouver Corporate office, but will be required to travel extensively, and reports directly to the HSEP Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities

To support the Company’s health, safety, and environment programs.

  • Provide input into the development of corporate, regional, and site procedures/practices;
  • Standardize the procedures/practices across the organization, as needed;
  • Ensure the completion of annual Asset Retirement Obligation estimates for B2Gold’s sites;
  • Provide expertise and guidance to all sites within B2Gold in all disciplines associated with health, safety, and environment management;
  • Assist regional and site personnel in implementing health, safety, and environment programs;
  • Advise and assist site management in the development of hazard control methods and techniques consistent with B2Gold health, safety, and environment requirements;
  • Participate in accident/incident investigations for fatalities and extreme risk events at B2Gold sites;
  • Measure, audit, and evaluate the health, safety, and environment management systems and hazard controls at B2Gold operations for conformance with B2Gold’s health, safety, and environment requirements and communicate the results of the evaluations to site management and appropriate corporate personnel;
  • Verify the completion of corrective actions relating to HSE audit findings;
  • Support the development of the health, safety, and environment components of the Company’s Responsibility Report; and
  • Support environmental studies and impact assessments for the Company’s development projects.

To advise the management group on corporate health, safety, and environment.

  • Produce and deliver monthly health, safety, and environment reports on the operational performance of B2Gold sites;
  • Prepare internal and external health, safety, and environment reports or components of reports, as required;
  • Review best practices and the competitive landscape and recommend continuous improvement efforts in corporate health, safety, and environment; and
  • Stay current with technological developments, standards, methods, and international best practices related to health, safety, and environmental management.

Competencies and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field;
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience; and
  • French and/or Spanish language skills are an asset.

Community Relations Consultant, West Africa - MaliLearn More

Position
Community Relations (CR) Consultant, West Africa – Mali

Location and Reporting Structure
This position will be a fly in – fly out rotation, based at the Fekola Gold Project in Mali, and reports functionally to the CSR Manager but directly to the VP, West Africa.

Duties and Responsibilities
Principal Responsibilities:

  • Oversee CR department when CR Manager is on leave, and provide support when CR Manager is on site, including developing, directing, participating in and/or evaluating:
    • Grievance management;
    • Plan and project for stakeholder engagement, community development, ASM, human rights management, and local procurement and employment;
    • The professional development of CR team members;
    • The implementation of B2Gold Social Performance Standards; and
    • Monthly and quarterly reporting;
  • Support the implementation of major projects; and
  • Carry out the above functions in accordance to B2Gold Social Policy and Social Performance Standards.

A significant area of responsibility will be overseeing the resettlement of Fadougou village:

  • Accountable for executing a successful resettlement project and working with external experts and consultants, all levels of company management, and other employees to fulfill on this mandate, including:
    • Ensure the livelihoods and standards of living of displaced people are fully restored or enhanced, including through participation in the construction of the new village;
    • Oversee ongoing and regular engagement with affected community members and other stakeholders in order to manage expectations and inform company of stakeholder perspectives;
    • Work with CR team members and external consultants on livelihood restoration programs and ensure alignment with community development;
    • Oversee grievance management related to land disputes, compensation and resettlement commitments;
    • Generate reports as needed (weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual) to management on resettlement progress, impact metrics and budget;
    • Coordinate with other site-level departments and B2Gold corporate; and
  • Perform other duties as required in support of Company objectives.

Competencies and Requirements

  • Degree in a relevant field (e.g. Social Development, Economics, Social Science, International Relations, Communication);
  • Master’s degree will be an asset;
  • 5 – 10 years related professional experience in the extractive industry, preferably in a management capacity;
  • Experience in coordinating with internal departments and external stakeholders and partners;
  • Understanding of community relations processes, international standards, and best practices;
  • Ability to identify, understand, and manage community expectations and needs;
  • Strong skills in team building, conflict management, and consensus building;
  • Strong organizational and project management skills; and
  • Fluent in English and French.

Occupational Hygienist, West Africa – MaliLearn More

Reporting to the HSE Manager, this position will be a fly in – fly out rotation, based at the B2Gold Mali Fekola Mine.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Apply and monitor the application of occupational hygiene systems and procedures in areas of responsibility;
  • Anticipate, recognize, evaluate and control chemical, physical and biological hazards in the workplace;
  • Lead the implementation of the occupational hygiene monitoring programs, procedures and protocols to ensure exposure to hazardous substances are controlled to within exposure guidelines;
  • Assist Line Managers/Supervisors with programs, policies and procedures in ensuring all employees are trained in occupational hygiene processes and knowledgeable to apply correct working practices in all assigned tasks;
  • Foster an occupational health awareness culture with the main aim of achieving zero harm to people and the environment;
  • Implement an Occupational Health Management system;
  • Develop an occupational health exposure risk profile for Fekola employees and prioritize the exposure profile based on risk ranking;
  • Establish an employee-monitoring program based on the risk profile and conduct employee monitoring for chemical, physical and biological hazards;
  • Facilitate the completion of biological monitoring where employee exposure profiles dictate and manage results;
  • Establish a database for exposure monitoring data including data grouping by Similar Exposure Groups (SEG);
  • Work with departments to identify and implement control measures to reduce employee exposure.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of controls including ventilation systems;
  • Provide regular training and awareness on occupational hygiene topics;
  • Manage the Respiratory Protection, Hearing Conservation and Hazard Communications programs;
  • Maintain, calibrate and keep records of such for monitoring equipment;
  • Track corrective actions and reasons for delays;
  • Report all work related illnesses and work with site medical staff to manage these illnesses;
  • Promote and encourage employee contributions for on-going improvements of procedures;
  • Maintain a healthy and safe working environment;
  • Comply with the Malian Mining Act (Labour Act, Ordinance, Minerals Act, Explosives Act) and Regulations clauses that apply to the work area;
  • Ensure all employees receive proper inductions, and safety and health training;
  • Complete Core Safety training modules which includes but are not limited to: HIRA, JSEA, Pre-Task Risk Assessments, etc;
  • Control and minimise environmental impacts of activities;
  • Demonstrate commitment and leadership in environmental management;
  • Implement and improve the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Management System; and
  • Perform other duties, as required in support of Company objectives.

Competencies and Requirements

  • Relevant occupational hygienist qualification, e.g. CIH, ROH preferred ;
  • Diploma in a science discipline or occupational health;
  • 4 years’ experience working within an occupational hygiene discipline; and
  • Preferably 4 years’ working experience in the mining or heavy manufacturing industry.

Electrical Superintendent, West Africa – Mali Learn More

Position
Electrical Superintendent, West Africa - Mali

Introduction
The Electrical Maintenance team shall take leadership and responsibility for the safety, maintenance, repair or replacement of all electrical equipment and systems for the site to ensure maximum production quantity and quality. This position will work in collaboration with the Planning and Procurement team to ensure spares and consumables are managed including identifying and requisitioning of newly identified items. Maintenance of the relevant inventory spares listing and mapping to parent equipment will fall under the role to ensure compliance is achieved.

Location and Reporting Structure
Reporting to the Mill Manager, this position will be a fly in – fly out rotation, based at the B2Gold Mali Fekola Mine.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Train and support Maintenance Electricians to perform required tasks, including inspecting, troubleshooting, and utilizing root cause analysis process and repairs to equipment to ensure day to day maintenance duties are successfully carried out;
  • Long-term planning to ensure the needs of the Process Plant is met to achieve its objectives and targets;
  • Monitor maintenance performance on a daily basis to ensure responsible practices are being conducted at all times with minimum wastage or unnecessary expenditure/downtime on plant and equipment;
  • Develop centerline and machine setup documentation on equipment;
  • Participate and provide regular support on maintenance prioritization and shutdown planning;
  • Install specified electrical equipment and devices according to electrical standards;
  • Prepare material takeoff for electrical and instrumentation installations;
  • Prepare electrical and instrumentation diagrams and plans;
  • Interpret blueprints, drawings, sketches or schematic diagrams;
  • Ensure that files of all electrical and instrumentation manuals and diagrams being used in repair and troubleshooting are properly organized;
  • Ensure safe working practices and environmental activities are conducted responsibly to the highest standard achievable, and cooperate with other departments in HSE programs;
  • Prepare clearly written reports and other documentation on required frequencies (responsible for the quality and timing of the information being provided from reports, inspections, etc.);
  • Advise and assist with preparation of maintenance plans/scheduled activities for both short and long-term timelines including major maintenance periods and other routine shutdowns;
  • Responsible for the training and mentoring process for Site Electrical personnel;
  • Maintain constructive and effective working relationships with B2Gold employees, contractors, and consultants; and
  • Perform other duties as required in support of Company objectives.

Competencies and Requirements

  • BEng Degree in electrical discipline or equivalent extensive industry experience;
  • Minimum 10 years’ industry experience, at least 5 years within a gold processing plant at a Supervisory or Senior Technical Support role;
  • High electro-mechanical aptitude with an advanced level of troubleshooting skills;
  • Experience with equipment reliability programs;
  • Proficient with Microsoft office products and EAP software;
  • Experience with workplace safety programs;
  • Experience with budgets and budgeting methodologies;
  • Experience with formulating short and medium-term goals/operating plans, including shutdown planning and execution;
  • Large Autogenous/Semi-Autogenous Mill Maintenance experience including drive line management, lubrication systems, and NDT principles;
  • Familiar with legislative requirements governing Mining and Quarrying operations, regarding electrical installations and practices;
  • Previous experience working in developing countries; and
  • Relevant electrical license/qualifications that may be required.

Millwright, West Africa – Mali Learn More

Position
Millwright, West Africa – Mali

Introduction
The principal function of the Millwright is to support the Mechanical maintenance activities within the Processing Plant, ensuring they are being conducted in accordance with company policies and procedures to ensure the Plant is performing as intended achieving the required targets. The Millwrights will coordinate and motivate the team towards these objectives, control and manage activities in the safest possible manner, and provide timely and reliable information to their superiors on a regular basis. Training and mentoring of National trades personnel and artisans will be a core function of the Millwrights purpose to transfer the required skills to the Mechanical Maintenance team.

Location and Reporting Structure
Reporting to the Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor/Superintendent, this position will be a fly in – fly out rotation, based at the B2Gold Mali Fekola Mine.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Adhere to and support all company related policies and procedures;
  • Operate within the standard operating procedures and job safety analysis;
  • Accountable for the integrity, reliability and operability of mechanical equipment installations at the plant;
  • Address mechanical non-conformance issues through effective use of department personnel/resources;
  • Prepare clearly written reports and other documentation on required frequencies within the time frames required;
  • Assist with daily and weekly planning, execution and control, including scheduling and priority work assignments;
  • Responsible for the successful execution of mill shutdown activities and quality of work performed;
  • Ensure the Process Plant is maintained in an excellent state of housekeeping at all times;
  • Responsible for the transactions of maintenance spares/consumables ensuring items are costed to the correct GL code/work order number;
  • Conduct inspections of the maintenance work activities during your shift, mentor team members, QA/QC of work quality and direct/adjust work methodologies accordingly;
  • Liaise with Mill Operations on a daily basis to ensure suitable resolution is achieved to issues associated with equipment performance or reliability;
  • Ensure safe working practices and environmental activities are conducted responsibly by Mill employees, contractors and visitors, and cooperate with other departments in HSE compliance programs;
  • Maintain constructive and effective working relationships with B2Gold employees, contractors, and consultants;
  • Never allow a piece of equipment to be operated by somebody not trained or authorized to do so
  • Train local employees in the role and provide mentoring and the development of skills, where possible; and
  • Perform other duties as required in support of Company objectives.

Competencies and Requirements

  • High school degree;
  • Written and oral fluency in French is an asset;
  • Trade qualifications in a mechanical maintenance discipline;
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in a mineral processing plant post trade;
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a Supervisory capacity in a similar role;
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations unaided;
  • Experience with workplace safety programs;
  • Strong Electro Mechanical aptitude;
  • Experience with CMMS and planning functions;
  • Experience/exposure to chemicals and familiarity with MSDS is an asset;
  • Ability/willingness to work long shift durations, including shift work;
  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces; and
  • Experience with load shift techniques, including directing cranes and other mechanical equipment.
