Position
GIS Geologist

Introduction
The GIS Geologist will provide effective and high quality GIS services to the exploration team through managing, analyzing, and mapping of spatial data.  The position will include frequent interaction with corporate geology as well as site management, operations and other departments.
The successful candidate will:

  • Work with members of the exploration team to ensure the data and maps utilized by the exploration team is complete, accurate and up-to-date;
  • Actively engage and collaborate with other GIS team members to further improve the GIS services within B2 Gold;
  • Openly share information, ideas, possible innovations and solutions within the team; and
  • Be a responsible and self-directed individual who is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where there is frequent change. 

Location and reporting structure
Reporting to the Vice President, Geology & Tech Services, this position will be based in Vancouver and work with our Vancouver based technical group.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Plotting of plan maps using GIS  with an emphasis on “mining” the data for relevant exploration information;
  • Plotting using 3D software for effective representation of  geological data in section, level and long section;
  • Minor database administration/extraction using Access / Excel;
  • Compositing;
  • Formatting and organization of geological data;
  • Spatial data management and organization;
  • Report compilation;
  • Data summarization for project evaluations; and
  • Graphic creation (internal technical and non-technical audiences, news release quality)

Competencies and Requirements

  • Ability to manage datasets for use in GIS/3D software;
  • Degree in Geology, GIS Technician or similar relevant field;
  • 10 + years of relevant mining industry experience, including significant exploration and GIS experience;
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities with all levels of internal employees;
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision, manage multitasking and multiple demands;
  • Knowledge and experience working with Microsoft software (Word, Outlook, Excel, Access); and
  • Knowledge and experience working with GIS software (Mapinfo, ArcGIS, Gems, Datamine, other).

Position
Deputy Mill Manager, West Africa - Mali

Introduction
A start-up opportunity exists for an incumbent to oversee the Process Plant and be responsible for the operation to agreed parameters.

Location and reporting structure
Reporting to the Mill Manager, this position will be a fly in - fly out rotation, based at the Fekola Gold Project in Mali.

Duties and responsibilities
As Deputy Mill Manager you will be accountable for the operation and will ensure the employees’ safety is second to none plus providing opportunities for continuous development and improvement. It is essential that applicants have a desire to succeed in a developing nation and possess a professional attitude recognizing social sensibilities at all times. The primary role of the incumbent will be to support the Mill Manager in providing leadership and support to the Process department, troubleshoot major repairs and ensure full compliance with company standards, policies and procedures at all times. The role will be required to cover for periods of absence by the Mill Manager during rostered breaks and subsequently the individual must possess a high level of self-motivation and discipline to ensure efficiencies in all facets of the operation are achieved. Previous exposure to Maintenance systems and practices would be considered an advantage.

The success of the position will see a strong reliance on teamwork and the ability to work as part of a dynamic team is essential. The role will be involved in start-up hence previous experience at this level of an operation would be highly regarded. The ability to interact with other groups within the business to ensure the highest electro - mechanical availability is achieved at all times is a must.

Mining Engineer, West Africa – Mali Learn More

Position
Mining Engineer, West Africa – Mali

Introduction

The purpose of this role is to provide mine planning services within the mining engineering group, including short-term scheduling, drilling layouts, blasting assistance, coordination with grade control, and other general requirements of mining operations.

Location and reporting structure

This position will be based at the B2Gold Mali Fekola Mine and will report to a Technical Services Manager.  

Duties and responsibilities

  • Short-term and long term mine plans to ensure overall production schedule is met
  • Reconciles short range plans and actual key performance indicators back against the longer range plans
  • Liaises with mine operations department to integrate mine plans with operations activities
  • Create short-term mine production plans based off of optimised life-of-mine plan
  • Create drill layouts for mine operations
  • Works closely with explosives supply contractor on blast design and optimisation
  • Planning for water management of in-pit water
  • Regularly analyses engineering sections' operating costs and identifies cost reduction opportunities
  • Regularly analyses mine key performance indicators and integrates changes to KPI's into future plans
  • Development and implementation of engineering standard operating procedures
  • Assist in training junior engineers and other technical services staff

Competencies and Requirements

  • Degree in Mining Engineering with a minimum 5 years' experience open pit mine engineering
  • Strong computer skills in AutoCAD and a mine planning software package such as MineSight, Surpac, Micromine, Maptek, etc.
  • Accomplished written, verbal and group presentation skills
  • Experience with MS office
  • National driver’s license
