When Typhoon Opong struck Aroroy, Masbate in September, 2025, it left many families facing the difficult task of rebuilding their homes and livelihoods. In the wake of the tropical cyclone, B2Gold’s Masbate Gold Project companies Filminera Resources Corporation and Phil. Gold Processing & Refining Corp. (Phil. Gold) moved quickly to provide relief and reconstruction assistance to their host communities — demonstrating once again their deep commitment to the people of Aroroy.
Between September 25 and October 6, the two companies distributed over ₱10 million worth of donations, including both emergency relief goods and construction materials to help residents recover.
Relief and Rebuilding Support
Each relief pack contained essential food supplies — rice, canned goods, noodles, coffee, and bottled water — to provide immediate comfort to families in need. Construction materials, including galvanized iron sheets, nails, and plywood, were delivered to help rebuild homes damaged by the typhoon.
The aid reached communities across Ambolong, Talabaan, Bangon, Balawing, Pinanaan, Lanang, Jaboyoan, Tinago, Puro, Panique, Amoroy, Capsay, Balete, Concepcion, and Luy-a, with the Municipal Government of Aroroy coordinating the identification of families most in need of support.
Extending Care to Employees and Partners
Beyond community relief, Filminera and Phil. Gold also provided ₱28 million in financial assistance to their 758 direct employees and 1,163 contractor employees, helping their workforce recover from the impact of the storm. This initiative reflects the companies’ commitment to caring for both their host communities and the people who power their operations.
A Collaborative Effort
The relief operations were strengthened by the solidarity of the wider mining community. Through the Chamber of Mines of the Philippines and the Philippine Nickel Industry Association, multiple mining partners also contributed resources and played a key role by transporting the donated materials from Cebu and Manila to Masbate.
Barangay officials and residents expressed heartfelt gratitude for the assistance, noting how the donations have helped accelerate the community’s recovery efforts.
