Driven by our Company values and commitment to operate with fairness, respect, transparency and accountability, B2Gold seeks to build a trust-based relationship with local stakeholders. We strongly believe that it is our responsibility to share benefits and leave a positive legacy with communities that will last beyond the life of our mines.

As a company that operates in areas where there is significant risk of human rights impacts related to the presence of extractive companies, we recognize our responsibility to identify our human rights risks and impacts and actively work to manage them. We respect human rights as defined in the International Bill of Human Rights. We align our practices with the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and we implement the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights at all of our sites.

Human Rights

Around the world, communities are highlighting the need to address human rights concerns. B2Gold respects human rights as defined in the International Bill of Human Rights, and our approach to managing potential adverse impacts from our operations aligns with the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. We also implement the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights at all sites. B2Gold has taken a pro-active approach to human rights management by completing human rights risk assessments supported by robust training programs at all operations. In meeting our responsibility to respect human rights we are embedding human rights awareness throughout our organization.

“As part of our approach to respecting human rights, we pay particular attention to the potential risks on minority and vulnerable groups.”

Community Investment

As part of our socio-economic impact and legacy, one of our goals is to help build sustainable communities, with B2Gold acting as a catalyst and community members playing a lead role in their own development. Our holistic approach to community investment is focused on the four areas of education, public health, environmental conservation and livelihood development.

“Examples from our 2019 Responsible Mining Report demonstrate how the extraction of a resource from the ground can be used to effect positive change, and to finance creative solutions to pressing challenges, like the threats that a fast-moving world poses to communities’ livelihoods.”

Clive Johnson, President & CEO, B2Gold Corp.

Stakeholder Engagement

Engaging with stakeholders is an essential part of business. It allows us to proactively identify and address issues, lowering operational and reputational risk. Engagement also contributes to positive and lasting social and economic development when stakeholders are involved in identifying and designing programs to address community needs.

“In my mind, the secret of B2Gold’s success is our ability to establish positive relationships with local governments and communities, and that we deliver on the promises we make.”

Jean-Phylipe Santo, CSR Manager, B2Gold Corp.
